As you are aware that ERP is a centralized software solution that reduces the pressure and work load of the Managers by providing accurate and timely information for taking appropriate business decisions. Finance Experts working as end users when your company decides to implement ERP then as Business Manager you can play a key role as ERP Business Champions whose role includes, coordinating between Vendors, Consultants, Auditors, Senior Management etc and tracking and reporting project progress to the PMO (Project Management Office of the organization. He can also act as an SME (Subject Matter Expert) and work towards helping project team in translating the business rules/requirements and mapping them to the ERP software.

As your background is from Finance and you have been working on the materials management, you face a little challenge when compared to professionals who are truly from distribution side. Graduating from a course related to a specific SAP module is only a plus. At the end-of the day, it is all about understanding the fundamentals of the business processes which may vary on different companies.

I would like to put myself as an example. I am a graduate of Computer Science, but I got my certification in FICO module when I was a still fresh graduate (3 months exposure in FICO).

Now, I have 4 years of experience in MM and Functional Basis as well. I had a working experience in 3 different industries; Manufacturing, Conglomerate, Entertainment.

This 3 industries definitely have a FICO as the core financial system. This boosts my knowledge in different practices of Finance and Management Accounting.

Therefore, if you would like to pursue your MM consultant career, I think its best to place yourself in a company immersed in MM transactions and start from the ranks, because every information/knowlege that is available on the top of the heirarchy, came from the lowest part/section.

Remember, in order to have information, you must have data.
